Connect and manage more than 270 Smart Cities in Finistère

Monitor the department’s municipalities and communities in real time using an IoT and Data platform to manage businesses.

Kuzzle IoT was chosen as the data and IoT platform for the Finistère Smart Connect project to connect 270 municipalities and communities to be the first territory connected on a departmental scale.

The Territory of Finistère called on Kuzzle to develop a territorial data and IoT platform to manage businesses and monitor public infrastructure with the smart grid, as part of its Smart Connect project: the first territory connected on a departmental scale.

Kuzzle IoT connects and supervises 270 smart territories in real time thanks to more than 475,000 sensors and equipment connected to a territorial hypervisor. It manages connected public infrastructure and reduces its energy consumption. This collaboration results in the launch of a project to deploy a network infrastructure dedicated to IoT, allowing the optimized management and monitoring of public services through Smart Grids.

475000 Connected equipment

2000 Connected buildings

With this initiative, the first of its kind in France, the Finistère communities will soon have tools to control and manage the implementation of their public policies in the areas of energy and financial efficiency applied to public network services, but also in the area of relations with citizens.

Kuzzle IoT: your IoT & Data Science Platform

Kuzzle IoT is a new generation of Open Source IoT and Data platform that accelerates the deployment of your IoT applications. It is agnostic to sensor technologies, network connectivity, business systems for centralized and simplified management.

Kuzzle allows you to reduce the deployment time of your IoT applications and focus on your core business.

Turnkey urban hypervisor

This project is deployed in the community of communes of the Iroise country, the island of Ouessant and extends to the 270 municipalities and cities adhering to the SDEF. It allows to manage and pilot thanks to Kuzzle IoT for the Smart City.

Street lighting

Remote management of public lighting to control operating periods, power variations, consumption and maintenance.

Public buildings

Equip buildings with sensors for remote reading of fluid meters (water, gas, electricity, etc.) and thus enable more precise control and monitoring of consumption.

Environnement

Deployment of external and internal sensors in public buildings to monitor air quality in particular and thus promote the management and comfort of buildings.

Parking

Identify available parking spaces in real time, thereby reducing the impact on pollution and noise and saving time for citizens.

Waste

Monitor the filling of voluntary drop-off points in real time and thus optimize household waste collection circuits.

Water

Remote reading of sector meters in real time to detect leaks and trigger alerts.

Connecting the territories

In order to be able to master the technology from start to finish, the choice fell on a “LoRa” type infrastructure in a long-range private network allowing low-speed communication of connected objects and developed in Open source technology to be used by any community. 420 LoRa gateways have been deployed throughout the Finistère Territory.

The choice of the private LoRa network shows that Kuzzle IoT adapts to different types of connectivity and to all types of communication networks.

Citizen Inclusivity

The modus operandi of a smart territory is based on co-creation and citizen participation. It is a “living together” project that requires the commitment and involvement of users. Thus, thanks to the provision of a citizen platform by the communities, the inhabitants of the territory will be directly informed of an event and will also be able to relay the information.

Results of the project developed with the Kuzzle IoT platform

The Smart City solution, Kuzzle IoT, is being deployed in more than 270 municipalities and communities in the Finistère region and enables the collection and restitution of usage data from more than 475,000 IoT devices and sensors, with the aim of generating concrete and sustainable energy savings.

SDEF - Energy Territories

The SDEF is responsible for organizing the public electricity distribution service. A key player in the energy transition, the SDEF is involved in many areas related to controlling energy demand and developing renewable energies. It also participates in the promotion and development of digital uses for intelligent energy management and thus aims to offer Finistère communities a “Smart and Connected Territory” service.
